Coming Soon!
For the first marking period, students will be introduced to the Microsoft Office program Excel. In
conjunction with their math classes, students are learning how to create their own spreadsheets,
complete with formulas & custom formatting. The first assignment, called "Candy is Dandy,"
have students create a spreadsheet in order to find the most popular M&M color. Students are
given their own bag of M&M's to count, sort, and list on a spreadsheet. With formulas they learn
in Excel, students are able to total and average the various colors. At the end of the project,
students create a graph that demonstrates all the colors in a bag & determine which color is the
most popular! See if you agree with some of the findings listed below.
The students are progressing well through the basics of Excel. Another project we completed during the first marking period is making a
timeline using Excel. Students were asked to come up with a timeline of first marking period is making a timeline using Excel. Students were
asked to come up with a timeline of first marking period is making a timeline using Excel. Students were asked to come up with a timeline of
both their school schedule, and then one on their own. Students used various formatting tools in Excel to both their school schedule, and then
one on their own. Students used various formatting tools in Excel to help make their timeline look professional and colorful. The results you
can see below. As the marking period comes to an end, students have learned a lot and have shown that they have mastered some of the
basic programming methods of Excel in a short amount of time. Good job to all of you!

To say that the students were into the 2nd marking period PowerPoint lessons would be an understatement!
To introduce Microsoft PowerPoint to the students, Mr. Simmler had each student create their Top 10 Holiday
Wish List. But, there were no lists for Santa this year. Instead, students had to create their own PowerPoint
slideshow showing off their "must-haves" for the holiday season. Students used their creativity, humor, and
unique skills to come up with some pretty exciting presentations. After they completed their PowerPoints,
each student had to make an oral presentation in front of their peers using their slideshows!ALL the students
did a GREAT job and really showed how much they have learned in computer literacy so far!
