The Howell Campus was established
in 1980 and offers special education
services for classified students with
behavioral disabilities. Our students
range in age from 6-18 and come
from Monmouth, Middlesex, Ocean,
Somerset, and Mercer counties. A
staff of full-time professionals
includes administrators, teachers,
teacher assistants, guidance
counselors, social workers and
support staff, that creates a low
student/staff ratio. The therapeutic
environment provides an opportunity
for students to bring their problems
and difficult emotions to our setting.
Our students are offered assistance
and coaching in working through
those feelings.
Our students present special
challenges in meeting their diverse
academic, vocational and social
needs. Teacher assistants are
assigned to help them focus on
classroom instruction and activities.
We utilize a system of behavior
management that uses the earnings
of points, days and levels that helps
our students succeed educationally,
socially, and emotionally.
At Howell, we have a large campus
with outstanding facilities. Our
physical education facilities include a
beautiful gymnasium, a new athletic
field, a new state-of-the-art Universal
Weight room. Howell, "The Home of
the Sharks", participates in the Big
Coast Athletic League.
Some of the other amenities at
Howell campus include a new
commercial kitchen, cafeteria,
computer lab, garden and a
student-operated Aviary.
Our interactive environment gives us
the opportunity to make learning
more interesting and provides an
atmosphere that promotes positive
student growth. We have unique
programs such as Ornithology and
Horticulture. Special events such as
art and music shows, contests,
holiday dances, a talent and fashion
show, field trips and Student
Recognition Day are offered.
We help our students look towards
the future and the community by
providing programs and services that
will help them outside of the CLC. In
addition to a Community Liaison, we
are also a Community Services
location.
